The Agency Workers Regulations come into effect on October 1st 2011. This entitles temporary workers to pay equal to a permanent employee doing the same job after three months and the same benefits as any permanent employee immediately. The Recruitment and Employment Confederation fought long and hard against this ruling , but ultimately lost earlier this year and we now have to ensure we have everything in place to be compliant.

This will involve more record keeping as well as more cost in some cases. Employers will need to keep a track of who works on their projects and for how long as the three month period is cumulative. The Employment Business will certainly be doing this too , but to ensure no errors , it is wiser to keep your own records.

If you are unaware of this regulation ,please feel free to contact us for more inforamtion.

Consumer Code for Home Builders 2010

Monday, April 5th, 2010 admin Comments Off

On April 1st  the new Consumer Code for Home Builders will go into affect.

What is the Consumer Code for Home Builders? According to the consumer code website:

Consumer Code for Home Builders
As a result of the Barker Review of 2004 and the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) Market Study into the house building industry dated October 2008, a group of stakeholders within the industry joined forces to develop a voluntary Code of Conduct for home builders to address the issues raised relating to customer service and satisfaction.

The Consumer Code was formed by agreement between NHBC and MD Insurance Services Ltd (trading as Premier Guarantee and LABC New Home  Warranty). These organisations have agreed that builders and developers registered with them will adopt the Consumer Code.

The Code sets mandatory requirements that all home builders must meet in their marketing and selling of homes and their after-sales customer service and has been created to ensure that home buyers are:

In the forthcoming weeks I will take each item outlined in the Consumer Code for Home Builders and address each one.  The Highflyers has always endeavored to ensure that purchasers are treatly fairly, and the code will take this further in rfeal terms.

If you have not already read the code, you can find it in the link above.

Covina Site Plan - Shanly HomesWhilst out and about at the weekend , I finally went to Chalfont St. Peter to see Covina, a 5 bedroom house built by Shanly Homes. As I spend many hours behind the wheel of a car , I often fantasise about what I spend the money on if I had a big win (I don’t think I’m alone in this) and top of the list would be a new house. But finding one that I would actually want to buy is always the hard part, and with Covina , they go a long way to ticking all the boxes .

The huge kitchen/family room has bi-fold doors that open on to an established south facing garden , with woods at the end of it. The downstairs layout is impressive and they have actually put an external door into the utility room (why do so many developers overlook this?) , which also contains a shower , perfect for the dog walkers of Chalfont. With plenty of space , and located on a private estate , this one would be a contender on my wish list. See this house at Shanly Homes

KIVA

Kiva - loans that change lives

I was introduced to KIVA just over a year ago by Tad Brundage , who is not only our finance director, but President of Meridian Consulting Group and very interested in micro-finance. I was immediately interested. We all want to help people less well off than ourselves and our instinct when there is another catastrophe somewhere in the world is to dig into our pockets and donate cash. Some of us then stop and think Ah! but how much of my cash will reach those that need it and how much will be wasted for admin etc?

KIVA raises funds from donations from individuals or organisations and enables small businesses around the world, which otherwise would struggle to get funding, to start up or expand. Those small businesses repay the loan in the normal way and hopefully have gone some way to becoming self-sufficient for life.

As the owner of an employment business in a country where jobs are readily available, I particularly wanted to help women in poorer countries to have a better future. So my first donation of $50 went to a lady who borrowed $1150 funded by myself and 35 others to buy cosmetics to sell and who has already paid 84% of the money she borrowed. Mother of three, Aissatou Mamoudou of Togo is working hard to grow her business and support her children. I applaud her and KIVA’s efforts! More later

The Highflyers will donate $50 for every permanent placement or long term booking throughout 2010.
